Tavern Assistant

About the Job

This is a role within a team at one of Derbyshire's leading tourist attractions.  The Counter Assistant is responsible for the daily operation of “The Tavern”: a small admissions/retail/light snack outlet, down from the main summit visitor centre.  The Tavern is adjacent to The Rutland Cavern in which tours are conducted by the Cave Guide team.

Duties include:

Opening up and morning preparations.  Ensuring the outlet is clean, tidy and ready for opening at 10am.

Providing a warm and informed welcome to pedestrian visitors and selling them admission tickets. 

Till operation and cash handling.

Catering: serving hot, cold and alcoholic drinks as well as pre-packed snacks.  Conducting fridge and freezer temperature checks and stock rotation.  Maintaining excellent hygiene standards.

Retail: Selling a range of rock and fossil related gifts.

Providing a warm and informed welcome to pedestrian visitors and selling them admission tickets. 

Packing down and cleaning at the end of day.

About you:

You’ll be a friendly, outgoing and enthusiastic team player who enjoys engaging with a wide variety of visitors.  Due to the selling of alcohol, you’ll be over 18 and educated to GCSE level or above with fantastic communication skills.  

You’ll have experience in working in an environment where the customer always comes first.  Some retail or catering experience is desirable.

Due to the terrain at The Heights, you’ll be of reasonable physical fitness and mobility

If needed, you won’t be afraid to get stuck in and help other visitor-facing departments across the estate.

Contract Dates:

March 2017 – November 2017

Hours:

4 days per week 9.45 to 4.30
