Derbyshire's oldest but most innovative tourist attraction - the Heights of Abraham Cable Cars, Caverns and Hilltop Park in Matlock Bath - will open for the new season on Valentine's Day, 14 February 2009. The recent snow falls are creating an alpine experience without leaving Derbyshire!
Traditionally the first fifty adult visitors will be offered a free glass of champagne and chocolates to celebrate the opening day, but if the snow continues it may well be mulled wine!
Director, Rupert Pugh, said "During the winter months the cable car has undergone its extensive annual inspection and service and is now once again ready to welcome visitors. The Heights always opens early to support the accommodation sector which is reporting substantial bookings for the half term holiday. Despite the international financial gloom we are optimistic that more people will be holidaying in the Peak District and Derbyshire creating opportunities for the Heights and its team to show that their unique attraction has something for everyone from late winter, through spring and summer, to autumn"
