Peacocks

We are pleased to welcome the arrival of 2 Peafowl, Mac & Claire. They are a new, colourful and at times loud feature for you to see and enjoy whilst on your day out here at The Heights of Abraham. We hope that once acclimatised to their new woodland home Mac & Claire will settle in and roost in the nearby trees.

John Coulson Marketing Manager observed, "We see lots of birds at our feeders and the Peafowl will be an exotic addition to the splendid array of Blue Tits, Finches, Wagtails, Gold Crest and Woodpeckers."

They are both about 12 months old and have come to us as a gift from an Estate in Staffordshire. Mac the male is starting to lose his fledgling
feathers and for next year will be in full regal plumage. Claire too is losing her baby feathers however will remain less colourful than the male.

They have been in a temporary cage to allow them a few weeks to feel they belong and that this location is where they will be feed and watered. From Wednesday June 22nd they have been released in to the woodland where they will be free to wander and hopefully befriend our visitors.

Rupert Pugh Director commented "They are certainly inquisitive. On Thursday whilst locking up I found them wandering round the Treetops Visitor Centre Gift Shop!"
