Tavern

The location of today’s Tavern, on the lower slopes of the Heights of Abraham, makes it a veritable sun trap. It is here where the first visitors walking up from Matlock Bath in the 19thC would have stopped for refreshments and bought their admission tickets.

Of course in those days it was little more than a hut which then became a larger timber building, and today’s Tavern was built in the 1960’s and now boasts the oldest beer license in the Matlocks

The Tavern

The Tavern serves light refreshment to visitors to The Great Rutland Cavern and has interpretation and geology panels which were first installed in the 1970’s before the newer buildings at the Summit were developed.

So before or after your tour of the Great Rutland Cavern stop and relax. Use the picnic tables or wander up above the Tavern to the Beer Garden and take in the atmosphere that has been enjoyed here for over 200 years.
