Covid-19 Essential Information

The Heights is now closed for the winter. Please see our home page for 2021 opening information.

Please watch this short Covid-19 safety features video ahead of visiting the Heights. Then scroll down this page for further important information. Thank you.

Track and Trace!

Government track and trace requirements are that you provide us with a contact telephone number in case the NHS service needs to reach you after your visit.

Feeling Unwell ?

If you are feeling unwell, with any of the symptoms of Covid-19, we ask that you please do not visit the Estate. We can move your tickets to a new date once you're feeling better.

Wearing Face Coverings

Unless you are exempt, face coverings must be worn inside the cable car, this is to comply with government guidelines. You must also wear a face covering during a cavern tour.

Wash your hands

Please use our hand sanitiser and hand wash stations. More than 20 hand sanitiser points have been installed throughout the Estate along with extra hand washing stations.

Keep your Social Distance

Please keep your social distance in line with current Government guidelines.

Contactless Payments

Please be prepared to pay for items on-site with contactless methods.

Use your visitor map and follow the numbers on the key to make your way around the Estate. Be aware of areas where people gather and ensure you allow safe space between you and other visitors.

Our catering is different

We have altered the catering offer to comply with current Government guidelines. See our Eat and Shop pages for more details. The Vista restaurant and Terrace cafe both offer indoor and outdoor dining.

Be kind and considerate

Please be respectful towards your fellow visitors and staff here at the Heights. We want to make sure everyone has a relaxing and enjoyable day out.

Is it one cable car per family?

During the Covid-19 restrictions families of up to 6 or groups in their own bubble will ride together in a cable car.

How do I buy a ticket?

We recommend you purchase your cable car ticket on- line in advance of your visit. Daily visitor numbers are limited, so please book here to avoid disappointment.

What do I do if I feel poorly on the day I have pre-booked to visit?

Please DO NOT visit. Please contact us at and we will move your booking to another day.

Why are you collecting my contact details when I book?

In order to help reduce the risk of a Coronavirus outbreak we are taking contact details of our guests. We will share your details with NHS track and Trace if requested by them to do so. Thank you in advance for helping keep our visitors and our team safe.

Do I have to wear a face-covering?

Yes. The Government guidance is that face coverings must be worn on public transport, and that includes cable cars. The guidance sets out a few exceptions including children under the age of 11, and certain physical impairments or disabilities. Latest government guidance also makes it compulsory to wear face coverings in retail, and we recommend that you also wear face masks whilst on our cave tours.

What are you doing about cleaning?

We have always had a strict daily cleaning regime, however we have increased the frequency of cleaning in certain areas and frequently touched surfaces. We have installed 18 new outside handwashing bays and over 20 hand-sanitising units at locations spread around the estate.

Are the playgrounds open?

Yes our two childrens’ playgrounds are open. Covid-19 safety procedures have been put in place to ensure that all playground users and visitors have a safe experience. It is your decision whether your child can use our play areas, as this play area is unsupervised. The equipment is cleaned regularly, and we are operating at below 50% capacity to assist with social distancing. It is your responsibility to ensure that your child is socially distancing, please be considerate to other guests.

Are cave tours operating?

Yes, our guided cave tours are still taking place regularly throughout the day. The cave tour sizes have been reduced to enable social distancing, and we ask that you wear a face covering for the duration of the tour. As we have a one way system in place there is no opportunity to leave the cave mid-tour, so please be absolutely certain that you want to go underground and are able to climb 160 steps before you enter the cave. There are hand sanitisers for you to use before you enter the cave and the handrails will be cleaned regularly.

Are your exhibitions open?

Yes, our exhibitions are open for you to visit. Please ensure that you follow social distancing guidelines and be considerate to other guests.

Is the Masson Pavilion film show open?

Yes. We have reduced the seating capacity so that you can watch the film at a safe social distance. We ask that you are considerate to other guests.

Can I climb the Prospect Tower?

Yes you can climb to the top of the Victoria Prospect Tower. The spiral staircase is narrow with no passing places. Before you start your climb, we ask that you call up the stairs to check there is no one already on their descent and check the screen to see that there is space to socially-distance at the top.

Are your gift shops open?

The Rockshop is open and offers a wide range of rock and fossil gifts. We ask that you only touch items if you wish to purchase them. We will limit the number of customers in the shop at one time, and please remember to wear your face covering. Sadly we have had to remove a few of the childrens’ interactive activities.

Unfortunately, we have had to make the decision to temporarily close the Gift Shop. This is to allow more space for our Café customers to socially distance. We are selling a limited range of Heights Souvenirs in the Rockshop.

Are the toilets open?

Yes, our loos are open. We have installed hand sanitiser stations for you to use before you enter the loos, and we ask that you wash your hands properly before you exit the loos. Please do not enter the loos until there is space to do so, and please be considerate to other guests. Our loos are cleaned regularly.

Are your café and restaurant open?

Yes. The Terrace Café and Vista Restaurant are both open, as is the ice cream kiosk.

In Vista, our at-seat restaurant with spectacular views, we have socially spaced our tables, simplified our menus and added additional outside seating. Whilst in the Café we have socially spaced our tables, put a one-way system in place and created a menu that will speed up counter service and reduce queuing times. Please see the menus here – Vista Restaurant, Terrace Café.

Will your team be wearing PP&E?

Certain members of our team members may wear PPE in order to carry out their roles safely, or if they choose to do so.

Is the Punch & Judy show happening this year?

Yes, Mr Punch has returned for his 15th season. He will be doing 4 shows a day from 25th July to 6th September. We have set up the audience seating to permit social distancing between families, but unfortunately seating spaces will be limited. Government guidance does not permit audience participation, such as loud shouting, but Mr Punch has some ingenious new ideas for how you can all join in the fun!
