Show Caverns

Our Show Caverns open for guided tours throughout the day.

Our two guided cavern tours run at regular intervals throughout the day and are included in your admission.

The caverns were formed over 350 million years ago and each hold their own fascinating story. The Great Rutland Cavern first opened in 1787 as a show cavern, the tours in the modern day are recreated by costumed guides, to tell the history of show caves in Matlock Bath. The Great Masson Cavern goes into detail about the geological formation of the caves and includes a brand new audio visual experience.

Tours around the Masson Cavern take around 40 minutes and involve quite a few upward steps. Tours at the Rutland Cavern take around 20 minutes and involve considerably less steps!

The cavern roof is quite low in certain sections, all guests will be required to bend down for brief periods in order to successfully navigate the cave system. Please see our accessibility page for more information.
